BIOGRAPHY

Mary Ann Strandell Biography

In the collections of major private and public institutions including the Nelson Atkins Museum, the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Spencer Museum of Art, Mary Ann Strandell’s work has been exhibited widely in national and international venues since receiving a MFA from the University of New Mexico.  Her paintings build utopias out of California Moderne architecture and Asian-inspired chinoiseries; layering birds, figurines, Modernist  elements, and cosmic chandeliers.  Extending these motifs through 3-D lenticular prints, Strandell experiments with digital technology, installation and new medias, broadening the Pop Baroque elements of her work into an active dialogue between history and the contemporary world.
