OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma – Santa Fe mixed media artist Janet O’Neal, Southwest primitive painter Jim Keffer and ceramic artist Gayle Singer will be exhibiting at JRB Art at The Elms. Opening reception will be held from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm on Friday, September 1st, 2017, during the Paseo’s First Friday Gallery Walk. The exhibitions will be on view until Sunday, October 1st, 2017.

An annual Oklahoma Festival of the Arts favorite, Janet O’Neal decided 2017 was her last year to show at the Festival, “JRB Art will be the only gallery in Oklahoma City to show my abstract work”. The exhibition she brings is composed of both large and small vividly colored abstracts with deep texture, resin glazes and cast textural sculpture present an engaging dimensional world of symbols. The colorful images stand out as bold statements of joy and energy. Janet’s work continues to evolve in its complexity due to her fascination with exploring new media. “My desire to express an emotion or idea is always accompanied by the search and exploration of new techniques. I feel this investigation keeps the art fresh and alive and fuels my growth as both an artist and an individual.”
Another Oklahoma Festival of the Arts favorite, Jim Keffer will present an exhibition of new, modern primitive paintings of locations in Oklahoma and New Mexico. This self-taught artist uses a technique of priming his canvasses with red paint before painting landscapes with huge blue skies filled with puffy clouds. “A single moment in time when mankind awakens to this
world, I like to think of that moment as giving the primal component to my paintings.” Jim explains calling that moment the primal now.
Known for her sculptural shapes and variety of glazes and firing techniques, ceramicist Gayle Singer is recently retired professor of Art and Ceramics Coordinator from the University of Central Oklahoma. She taught at the University for over twenty-two years. Her interest in clay began thirty-five years ago as an undergraduate student. Her work has been widely exhibited in international, national, and regional exhibitions. Gayle brings to us her functional organic vessels stating, “Function is an integral part of my work, bringing an element of surprise, intimacy, and accessibility to each piece.”
