BIRDS OF A FEATHER: PAINTINGS BY B.J. WHITE and CERAMICS BY MERRY COX at JRB ART AT THE ELMS IN MARCH

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Birds of a Feather, an exhibition of paintings by B.J. White and ceramic assemblage works by Merry Cox will, open with an artist’s reception on Friday, March 6, 2009, from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m., at JRB Art at The Elms during the monthly Gallery Walk in Oklahoma City’s Paseo Arts District. The show runs through March 28th.

In this lively exhibit, vibrant paintings, collages and woodcuts by B.J. White interact with found object assemblages of all shapes and sizes by Merry Cox. The artists described Birds of a Feather as a show created by two friends committed to collecting, connecting, regenerations and preservation.

B.J. White received her MFA from The University of Oklahoma and is a recognized contemporary artist whose paintings, collages, and sculptures have been extensively exhibited and are held in private and corporate collections all over the world. B.J.'s work is based on her emotional response to nature and written and/or spoken language as it relates to social, political or environmental issues. The complexity of these issues is translated, usually in large formats, by the multiple layering of color, images, and textures. The repetitive shapes or marks, which are so prevalent in her work, represent the staccato rhythm of life and the multiplicity and synchronicity of experiences.

An enthusiastic “outdoor person”, Merry Cox is well known for her whimsical ceramics, often featuring images of women. In this exhibit, Merry presents work that is created using found objects combined with fanciful ceramic sculptures as well as functional items such as tables and chairs. A self taught artist, Merry’s work has been exhibited in gallery exhibits and art festivals throughout the United States. Merry lives and works in Colorado.

JRB Art at The Elms presents a diverse roster of emerging, established, and internationally exhibited artists who create in a wide range of media including: paintings, drawings, sculpture, ceramics, glass, fine crafts, functional objects, fiber art and photographs. This award winning gallery in Oklahoma City’s Paseo Arts District with its historic 4,500 square foot exhibition space, changes its exhibits monthly in a gracious environment that fosters a dialogue between the arts and the larger community while providing quality art for first time buyers as well as individual, corporate and museum collections.

JRB Art at The Elms, the former home of Nan Sheets which was built in 1920, is located at 2810 North Walker and is open Monday through Saturday, 10-6, and Sunday 1-5. Phone: (405) 528-6336, website: www.jrbartgallery.com, e-mail: jrb@coxinet.net.
