ARTISTIC EXPRESSIONS OF LOVE AND AFFECTION ARE FEATURED AT JRB ART AT THE ELMS THROUGHOUT THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Two distinctly different exhibits: “Paper Love,” which features multiple expressions of love captured on paper by invited artists working in a variety of mediums and “Puppy Love,” the two and three dimensional paintings of dogs by Atlanta artist, Linda Mitchell opens on February 5, 2010, from 6:00 until 10:00 p.m., during the monthly Gallery Walk in Oklahoma City’s Paseo Arts District. The exhibits will run through February 27, 2010.
Colorado artists, Jenny and Greg Gummersall, who also happen to be husband and wife, will debut in the Gallery’s show “Paper Love.” Jenny will present a series of photographs of much loved objects as well as images of the remembrance of love and desire. Gregg will present paintings and drawings of love captured and enjoyed. Dana Joseph, Senior Editor of “Cowboys & Indians Magazine,” says: “Jenny Gummersall’s photography knocks me out. She sees fine art everywhere around her—an egg in a ranch kitchen, a cloud formation over Telluride. That these photographs can flip my fantasy switch with a little toy horse and an impromptu tableau tells me that Jenny Gummersall is an artist indeed.”
Betty Ann Brown, Art Author and Curator, describes Gregg Gummersall’s work: “His technique is responsible for the multivalent readings of his work. Gregg covers raw canvas in variegated collage, employing oriental papers, silk tissues, foil and string and then covers the collage with paint revealing only segments of it, in the positive/negative dialogue of his final surface.” In other works, Gregg adds elements of calligraphy that are crypto logical and blur the line between painting and drawing. Oklahoma City artists who are also participating in “Paper Love” include George Oswalt, Michi Susan, Keegan O’Keefe, Claudia Wylie, Martha Green and Carol Beesley.
“Puppy Love” features Linda Mitchell, an Atlanta based artist, whose work will also be featured at the Goddard Center in Ardmore in March. Mitchell, who has master’s degrees in painting as well as sculpture and has alternated between those practices over the years, has brought both of those skills to bear in the work she created for JRB Art at The Elms. The exhibit will feature 20 works in various sizes, and utilizing various media. Most of the works are three dimensional creations that feature paintings or photographic facsimiles of dogs. Using fauna, architecture, history, culture and flora, as well as found objects, Mitchell creates a rich world of memory, fantasy, and mystery.
In addition to presenting two fine shows: “Paper Love” and “Puppy Love,” JRB Art at the Elms Gallery will create an environment for its visitors in which they can begin celebrating February as the universal month of love and affection. Matt Denman, a classical guitarist, will be playing love songs throughout the evening while guests indulge in the decadent chocolate desserts concocted by Seasons Catering. There will be a special opportunity to listen to poems of love and a Gallery photographer will be on hand to take pictures of you and the one you adore.
JRB Art at The Elms presents a diverse roster of emerging, established, and internationally exhibited artists who create in a wide range of media including: paintings, drawings, sculpture, ceramics, glass, fine crafts, functional objects, fiber art and photographs. This 8,000 square foot award-winning gallery in Oklahoma City’s Paseo Arts District, changes its exhibits monthly in a gracious environment that fosters a dialogue between the arts and the larger community while providing quality art for first time buyers as well as individual, corporate and museum collections.
JRB Art at The Elms, the former home of Nan Sheets which was built in 1920, is located at 2810 North Walker and is open Monday through Saturday, 10-6, and Sunday 1-5. Phone: (405) 528-6336, website: www.jrbartgallery.com , email: jrb@coxinet.net
